Australia

What is home?

This project explores the concept of 'home' and what it can mean regarding feelings, places, lands, people and states of being.

The project 'Australia' focuses on Mia's connection to her homeland and the feeling and sense of home that she feels as she celebrates Australia's unique landscape, flora, fauna, oceans, people and cities.

Mia Leeworthy showcases the uniqueness of her country through colour and structural aberration in the design of lasting individual garments.

"Having recently returned living from one and a half years in Northern Germany, I came to realise how much I had developed a home there among lovely friends, beautiful cities and welcoming vibes. I felt at ease while living in Germany but upon returning to my homeland Australia, my appreciation and love for the country grew exponentially. The uniqueness and diversity of Australia's environment and nature and the kindness and relaxedness of the people opened again my strong connection to this place filled with wonderful memories."
